The BRAZILIAN ECOTOURISM JOURNAL (RBEcotur) is a four-month electronic publishing produced by the Brazilian Ecotourism Society (SBEcotur), as an expression  of the professionals involved efforts: editors and other cooperators. It was created in 2008, its issues are exclusively edited in the electronic format on line (SEER).

It publishes original articles of scientific character, in portuguese, spanish and english, with the objective to help different professionals in face of a variety of studies and researches contexts in Ecotourism and correlated activities, contributing to the spread, dialogue and exchange of applied or theoretical knowledge, as well as to the network building. Its proposal is to promote a wide debate between the public and private authority, the tourism agents, agencies, NGO’s and teaching and research institutions, mainly related to the planning application and management of the Ecotourism turned to the minimal impact practices.

The RBEcotur was evaluated by the Selection Committee, being accepted and included in the database Clase (Citas in Latin American Social Sciences and Humanities), edited by Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico through the General Direction of Libraries, which 30 years ago assesses more than 1500 titles of journals Latin American and the Caribbean.

The tranference and exchange of all this knowledge are relevant  so that the Ecotourism  impacts analysis and  prevention and the similar activities become indispensable tools to give support to the keeping of  preservation practices and to the leisure activities strategic planning, nature interpreting and the Environmental Education, linked to the natural resources conservation.

The thematic axles of this journal are the following:

Axle 1 - Ecotourism and Environmental Education

Axle 2 - Ecotourism Planning and Management.

Axle 3 - Natural Resources Management and Conservation by the Sustainable Tourism.

Axle 4 - Ecotourism Teaching, Research and Extension in Brazil.

Axle 5 - Community Basis Ecotourism.

The Ecotourism is a practice that needs to be more deeply studied and understood so, in spite of  been practiced for more than a hundred years, (since the creation of the first national parks in the world: Yellowstone and Yosemite), only in the latest years of the XX century it has established as a growing and economically meaningful phenomenon.

Although its principles and directions are clearly established and seem to be conceptualy understood by the professionals of the area, in practice, the Ecotourism needs a strategic vision, that promotes its development in national and international levels. This statement is specially true when are analysed the  projects of development in implementation in Brazil and the difficulties in planning and obtaining the results related to the compromisses with the sustainability.

The demands to go deep into the debate about Ecotourism would rather be better dealt among a scientific group that had in mind the worries with the involved people as: businessmen, scientists, fans, guides, governments, etc. So, during the VIº Ecotourism National Congress (VIº Conecotur) in Itatiaia, Rio de Janeiro, in 2007, it was proposed the creation of the Ecotourism Brazilian Society, with the format of a periodical that showed the scientific production of the professionals involved in this question. An academic commission was voted and approved, representing all the big geographic brazilian regions, government and universities, with the aim to found this society and its periodical in the VIIº Conecotur to happen in 2009, in Espirito Santo.

This way, this commission has been promoting debates and actions to put into practice what has been approved in the VIº Conecotur. The electronic edition of the BRAZILIAN ECOTOURISM JOURNAL (RBEcotur) comes to praise this great effort.

So, we would like to invite all the researchers and producers of knowledge in Ecotourism and related areas to add their  efforts to ours, publishing their ideas in the editions of the BRAZILIAN ECOTOURISM JOURNAL
